Contemporary wrought iron fireside accessories

Wall mounted companion set
This unusual design complements a traditional fire basket and canopy in an upside down barn conversion near Hayle. The handles of all implements appear to be cubes joined together but are in fact all one piece of metal. Square links form a hanging arrangement onto a wall mounted bracket and the brush is hand built. In the event of accident or wearing out the brush can be rebuilt. All implements are finished with black stain amalgamated with beeswax made by the bees here at Lower Boquio Farm.

Unique wrought iron and stained glass form

'Iron Age : Ice Age'
When iron and glass are combined in this striking form one appears to hover above the other. The iron plate is hand forged to a profile, then used as a mould in the kiln for crushed glass to be fused; the resulting shape will fit no other. When used this way it seems intriguing that the raw elements of iron and glass are both extracted from the earth, heated, cooled and then how different their natures become . . . .

Wrought iron sculpture

'Involute'
Taller than a person, this contemporary structure is composed of many hand forged elements, themselves tapering, riveted together in a perfect circle and diminishing in section as they rise up the sculpture. All is then mounted on a large block of Cornish granite and finished in a powder coating.

Contemporary wrought iron sculpture

'Helix'
Tapered throughout its length, this iron sculpture has been hand forged into the circular shape. Strength and energy are apparent in this graceful structure. Like Involute, the raw Cornish granite base complements the iron element in the simple but striking three dimensional form. Similar sculptures have been created with a copper plating, patinated to foster a lasting verdigris finish.

Cornwall tourism award trophy

Cornish Tourism Awards
A commission from the Cornwall Enterprise Trust to design and make this particular range of awards was the latest of several for Boquio Iron & Glass. Cut and split square hollow section iron was used, mounted on a base and then highly polished. A fused crushed glass column fits snugly inside reflecting light around and through the award itself. We have also just completed more awards for Arts & Business South West (see our news page).

As all items are hand produced, please note that any dimensions are approximate.
