Traditional wrought iron gate

Traditional wrought iron gate.
A private commission for a house in Truro, this gate features heeled tenons, tenons, spear heads, dog bars, hinge pivot and strap. Atop all, water leaves are fire welded onto the main stem with a squat ball detail and a large spear head finial. This gate has had modern undercoat treatment including hot zinc spraying so as not to cover forged details. Top coats of gloss finish were all applied by hand.

Lanhydrock House main gate

National Trust Lanhydrock - main gates
Extensive conservation works were required for the main gates of the house and two other gates in the curtilege of this Grade I listed listed property have been restored. A fifth will be renovated this winter. After chemical stripping, extensive study and recording, a renovation of these gates was undertaken, using only methods used when they were first made 150 years ago. Only wrought iron was used for replacement members, the sections specially rolled to size for these particular gates. Specially formulated paints were used - six coats in total, all the undercoats a differing colour, completing these important works.

A wrought iron friend

Dragon door knocker
This dragon, with deep set eyes, nostrils, wings and an open mouth with teeth is a friendly addition to a front door welcoming all those who call. Rose headed bolts, which go right through the door, complete with washers and dome headed nuts, make this item secure. Dragons are made in many sizes. Other styles of door knocker are also hand forged ~ please contact us for details.

Renovation of antique lamp

Antique gas lamp refurbishment
A pair of these lamps, both in a very sorry state, came to us for total refurbishment and conversion to electric. Sugg Lighting, the manufacturer as the enamel reflector tells us, have been in existence since 1837 and still produce lighting products today. Replacement support hoops and ladder stays were forged and affixed, glass re-puttied, electrical barrel conduit threaded and riveted into position with a rebuilt locator plate. Both now are providing light again for a private house in Newlyn.

Wrought iron fire basket

Fire Basket
Hand forging, bending, upsetting and riveting make this fire basket outlast all its contemporaries. Due to the lack of correct size cast iron fire bars available, Boquio Iron & Glass make their baskets with removable, interchangeable iron fire bars. In the long term, when required, it is an easy matter to get new iron bars cut to length and dropped into slots inside the basket. All is finished in 2 coats of heat resistant paint and ready for that first fire.

As all items are hand produced, please note that any dimensions are approximate.
